Wisdom for Finances

Last week, we considered an important subject of wisdom that has to do with the way we live our lives and how it will affect our eternity. This week, we shall be looking at a critical subject of wisdom for finances. I pray that the Lord will give you further understanding as you read this article, in the name of Jesus, amen.

Do you know the reason why God has not answer the financial prayers of many believers? The answer is simple – they do not have the wisdom for finances. God knows that if he gives them the money they are asking him for, it will be thrown down the drain. So while they are constantly crying to God for financial blessings, God is saying hold on my daughter I need to work on you a little further before I release these monies into your hands.

The Bible says, in all your pursuit of life make sure you get wisdom because wisdom is the principal thing. When something is principal, it means that thing is of utmost importance. If you have wisdom, your financial blessings cannot be delayed. How do you get wisdom for finances? You need to turn to the Holy Spirit to help you in that area.

There are many of us who have wasted opportunity for a long time financial blessings when the Lord opened a small door to test us. The moment we saw some small amount of dollars and pounds in our accounts, we went berserk, and our expenditure skyrocketed. We began to spend money on things that are unnecessary. Instead of planning to invest or save for the day of need, we were spending as if we had the keys of the bank of America in our hands.

There was nothing we did with what God has given us so the Lord knew that for him to entrust us with so much, we must be trained.

Not everything that God has blessed you with is meant for your consumption. The Bible says God gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater.

Isaiah 55:10

For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:

So what you have in your hands can be a seed for the future. If you eat the seed of today, you are not entitled to the harvest of tomorrow. Some of the resources God gives you should be planted to secure tomorrow. Other financial blessings that the Lord has entrusted into your hands should be invested to multiply tomorrow. While a part of it should be saved in order to attack the day of lack and want.

Wisdom for finances also means that God must be the first in your finances. You should start at the level of tithing by taking one-tenth of the finances that God has given you. And giving it back to God as your tithe. The book of Matthew chapter 6 verses 33, directs all believers to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. So God must be first in your finances. It is wisdom to make him first being the giver of all that you have.

For me, I have gone beyond the realm of giving one-tenth of my salary to God every month. Every money that enters into my hands, God is entitled to one-tenth of that money. Even if it is a dollar that I got, I still give God one-tenth of that one dollar. It is a personal practice that I do to ensure that I make God number one in all my finances. And I can tell you that in all these years of this practice, I have no reason to regret it.
